Centennial High School Band Ensembles

Wind Ensemble

Open to students in grades 10-12, by audition only. (In rare instances, a 9th grader may be offered the opportunity, based on instrumentation needs and ability.) This ensemble comprises the most outstanding instrumental musicians in the Centennial Band Program and will have as a primary focus the preparation of the finest literature for the modern wind band.
While students must already possess a high degree of ability to be selected, the further advancement of musical skills, both individual and ensemble, will be paramount to the success of the student and the organization. Students in this class will perform in several concert programs and in concert festivals. There will be out-of-school rehearsals and performances. While not a requirement, it is expected that members of the ensemble take private lessons on a regular basis.

Marching Band

The Centennial High School Marching Band is the most visible element in our program.
Performing at football games, parades, contests, and other events, the marching band will give more than double the performances of the concert band, jazz band, percussion ensemble, and winter guard. Therefore, our band’s reputation depends on excellence in Marching Band.
Marching Band requires commitment, dedication, and teamwork in order to be successful. In many ways, it prepares us for life. In most of our academic endeavors, our success only affects us as individuals. When I fail a test, it doesn’t hurt Sally. It is not so in Marching Band or any other musical ensemble. When one succeeds, we all succeed! When one fails, we all fail. It is during this time in marching band where we have the greatest opportunity to think of the needs of the group before the needs of the individual. By helping others to be greater than they imagine, we make ourselves better. When we have the opportunity to help others succeed, we are granted the same. Through these opportunities, we forge friendships that last a lifetime and create memories that we share as a group. Seize the opportunity to make the most out of this time of your life.
